Royal Palm Turkeys
I am on a mission to start breeding Royal Palm Turkeys. It's always something with me, isn't it? Well, I have been thinking about them for at least two years, and I think I have decided to go ahead. Turkeys are such a gamble, being stupid as they are, and tending to die before you can get them raised. I usually buy twice the number I want just to be sure I have enough to butcher, but the Royal Palms, being an Heritage breed, are supposedly smarter. I hope!
They are bigger than a large chicken and smaller than an average turkey, they breed, and tehy lay eggs which we will eat. I'm just about sure that they must still be broody too, and that we will be successful in having nest hatched out here on the ranch, instead of buying chicks every year.
They are gorgeous ornamental birds, but my motto is that all things I have must be pretty and useful. These are, so it seems a good idea. Anyone else have any experience with this breed?

You are such a go getter, Dalyn. Did you grow up with animals or did you do this whole ranch thing from scratch?
ReplyDeleteI want to have chickens this spring but, to tell you the truth, I am sort of chicken to even try!
