Another Reason to Homeschool

We have some friends that we dearly love. Their oldest son came today...he flew in, quite literally!
At 18, he is a working airplane mechanic and pilot.
I have to brag- I love this kid. Watched him grow up, and I am always ready to brag on a homeschool kid anyway.
Not only is he cool- he's got godly character and a great sense of humor. Plays the guitar...and lots of other things.
I took my kids to the airport to see Aaron and his plane. We stayed to watch him take-off after a too-short visit. His lovely mamma sent me organic, homegrown goat jerkey, dried tomatoes,a bag of potatoes, and some canned corn relish in the tiny compartment of the plane. If I didn't love her so much, I'd surely be jealous of her many talents.
YAY! For Homeschooling! They have the freedom to persue things other kids don't even have time for. They are not busy trying to keep up in a peer-pressured social climb...they are not stressed. They are free to be creative and follow dreams- I love that!

Here's all the kiddos together.

bye!

  1. Great pictures! Thanks for the encouragement:)) I needed that today! What a great reminder that we are raising our kids to be different, therefor I can quit trying to make sure they are up to par with the public school kiddos and just let them blossom as God intends. What great parents Aaron must have had to give him the freedom to pursue being a pilot at only 18!

  2. What a touching story! I really enjoy reading your blog!

I agree completely with you about homeschooled kids. I homeschooled my kids 25 years ago... back when it was almost scandalous to remove your kids from public school. And, now my daughter is homeschooling her sons. It pleases me greatly to watch them progress and their creativity.

  3. Isn't that wonderful? It's so great to hear positive stories about homeschoolers instead of the tripe that's bandied about in the likes of TIME magazine. (If that magazine was more absorbent I'd use it for tp.) Sometimes it's hard to stay the course, especially as winter drags on, but this was a great story to share and inspire.

  5. Wonderful post! We don't want to recreate what the public school systems are doing - we know that it isn't working! We need to do something different and accept that. And our kids benefit!

  6. Amen! Yep...just 1 more reason in an ever-growing list! We homeschooled our daughters K thru 12 & would do it again in a heartbeat!

  7. Love hearing about homeschooling.
We don't home school our 5 year old but feel like his school is a close match.....a one room school house where his Daddy went and his Grandfather. He is one of three kindergarteners in a school of 15 students total. Each student works at his or her own level, whatever that may be. We feel very lucky to have this school in our district...one of the few remaining one-room school houses.
    Love your blog!
