Right Under Your Nose

Think it doesn't happen here? Think again.  Under your very nose and in your neighborhood.
This book is written from a young girl's point of view- first as an innocent, and tells the story of how she was stolen and hidden in plain sight for years with a "herd" of other young prostitutes.
A pimp, pretending to be a sympathetic young admirer is actually a parent's worst fears come true. And sadly he is common, maybe your neighbor.
Somewhere in your town is a "herd" of young girls, maybe from 12 years old to 20, being sold and traded. They don't often ever see the light of day-that is unless they are too beat down and scared to run, being held captive, sometimes just a few miles or less from home.
It's horrible, yes, but we need to be aware. To prevent it. To help if we can.
This book was riveting. I'm crazy busy and devoured it in two days because I was so emotionally involved I could barely stand to put it down. I passed it to my daughter next, and she ended up staying awake reading all night!

Hope's character is truly believable and the metamorphis she undergoes during her kidnapping and sex trafficking is heart wrenching. The other characters are just as well developed.
It's worth the time to read. Your eyes will be open to what's really around you. Don't be afraid to be awake.
I highly suggest you get this one!
This book was written to bring attention to the horrors of sex trafficking. There are great discussion questions for book groups as well as a resource list for those who get stirred -up enough to want to somehow get involved.

*I was given a free copy of this book by the publisher in order to give an unbiased review.

  2. Thanks. You wrote a believable ( unfortunately?) book that made me want to go out and scoop up the kids at risk!
