"Is --- yours?" The woman asked me curiously. I see at once she's innocently unaware of the insult- the hurt she unwittingly inflicts. We are acquaintances and don't know one another well.
"Yes." I reply flatly. Then I see her eyes cloud over with confusion: he and I are not the same color. I take pity on her and forgive her instantly. "We adopted him about two years ago." I explain.
I see understanding dawn. She gets it. Good. One more person comes to see that adopted children are the kids of their parents.
As I've said before- don't tell my heart this boy wasn't born from my womb. It doesn't know. Yes, he is mine. My son.
