It's Not What You Think Review

So this Jefferson guy got famous on YouTube for his "Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus" video. He has gone on to have his own YouTube channel, a wife that he does a podcast with,a daughter, and quite a following. After reading his book "It's Not What You Think" I can see why. He's only gotten better over the years.

This guy knows his Bible! And his Jesus. He very thoroughly explains very deep theology in ways that even the simple can understand- makes things concreate and tangible. I so much enjoyed this meaty and satisfying book. Don't mistrust or discount all young people my friends- this guy has lots to teach us. In this book he explains with an overview of God's plan of reconciliation with mankind- His beloved people. He explains some misconceptions in religious life and he does so very well.

In the back of the book he gives TONS of resources for further reading. I plan on taking advantage of them. All in all my bottom line review on this book is; it's a game changer for those who are interested. It's well-written, it's relevant and what I really love is that even though is deeply theological it's written for the simple to become wise. Really- you will get something out of it no matter if you are a studious theologian or a highschool kid looking for some answers, or a housewife like me, homeschooling kids and always on the lookout for a good read.

Book Description

New York Times best-selling author of Jesus > Religion challenges the accepted thinking of contemporary Christianity with the world-changing message Jesus actually brought.
Jesus was most upset at people for seeing but not seeing. For missing it. For succumbing to the danger and idolatry of forcing God into preconceived ideals. What if there were a better way? What if Jesus came not to help people escape the world but rather to restore it? Best-selling author and spoken word artist Jefferson Bethke says that “Christians have the greatest story ever told but we aren’t telling it.” So in this new book, Bethke tells that story anew, presenting God’s truths from the Old and the New Testaments as the challenging and compelling story that it is—a grand narrative with God at the center. And in doing so, Bethke reminds readers of the life-changing message of Jesus that turned the world upside-down, a world that God is putting back together.
