Our Homeschool's SAT Scores

Today we got the two oldest kid's SAT scores in the mail...drumroll please!
(Last year was tough, and we did worry a bit that education had suffered. As you will see though, godly principals bring blessings, and God is faithful to mammas who pray! *U*)
Our 10th grader: PHS in EVERYTHING! (PHS= Post Highschool score)
Our 8th grader: 11 PHS scores, a 10.8, 7.7, 8.4, 9.9, 8.5, 11.6, and finally, a 9.5
For the record, we are pretty relaxed. We read tons, do alot of Bible study, and make sure we cover the basics while leaving plenty of time for individual interests to be persued. I make sure material is available, but I do not spoon-feed them an education. I merely provide books, DVDs, CDs, experiences, structure, discipline, and example. It's mostly up to them.
If we can do, you can do it.
Thanks for putting up with my little brag on my kids, but really, it's a brag on Jesus, Who is faithful in spelling and division and algebra, as well as matters of Salvation, peace, joy, etc!!
Really.
So now, after the family reading of the scores and pats on the back, as well as discussion on weak points and what we plan on doing about them, we are off to the bookstore for a coffee and to allow the kids to each choose a book for us to buy them.
(after they stack the hay in the barn!)

  1. That is so awesome! I homeschool also, my daughter is 6 and I think that is something everyone worries about. I am not really pushy with her either so I am glad to hear about your experience. I started reading your blog a couple weeks ago and I love it. We are contemplating a move to the country as well. Thanks for sharing your lives!

  4. Dalyn,
I came over to get caught up. Your kids are doing great. Praise the Lord. I sometimes worry that I am not doing enough and then I read something like this and am encouraged that with God all things are possible.
    Bless you,
    Trixi

  6. Congratulations to your kiddos...I too bragged a bit on my blog about the Track and Field day and how well my kids did and it was fun and we had a great day...I don't think it really is a bad thing to brag a bit because it comes down to the heart and you definately are not a PROUD spirited person...you have a gift of encouragement..... and it is encouraging for others to see when our children are doing great and when they need extra help....and scores in school does that and we like to share. I too don't like talking too much about my children's strengths in public...but it gives God the glory not us because without Him we can do nothing...

Thanks for sharing because I know you well enough to know that you have a wonderful heart and by you sharing, it encourages all those who homeschool to know that they too can be successful with teaching and in turn their children will learn and ARE learning....okay, off the soap box.

    Miss ya dear,

    Connie

  8. Great Job Kids and Mom!!! We too recieved our test scores a few weeks back and they were excellent (not bad for a mom who didn't go to college)God is faithful and it helps me to realize how important other things are and by focusing on our faith, the bible, character and adding some math, history, and writing in they all do fine. Its not important how much the schools have to offer, its the time we have to offer to our kids that matters more.
