Heavy Thoughts

Do you ever go over history and wonder how such evil can prevail time and again? The holocaust is on my mind very often and has been for years. The children in the foster care system...600 to 700 new placements per month in my area alone. We think if we insulate ourselves and our children from unpleasant facts they won't touch us. The reality of that is they are more certain to touch you or your children, grandchildren, eventually because of apathy. Apathy allows evil to prevail. Thank You Lord, that Your pattern is that good wins out in the end. Oh, but for those in the middle....

~Various Quotes that have me thinking deep thoughts~

"All it takes for evil to prevail is good men to do nothing." (don't remember where I got that, but never forgot it)

"....we must realize that apathy is the glove into which evil slips it's hand. Apathy sees people in terms of categories, rather than seeing each one as a person, a face, an individual with hopes and fears and a certain number of years to live on this earth, and then an eternity to face." Bodie & Brock Thoene, from Munich Signature

"I am only one,
but I am one.
I cannot do everything,
but I can do something.
And because I cannot do everything,
I will not refuse
to do the something
that I can do."
Edward Everett Hale

"The problem is not in knowing the truth. It is in acting on it." quote from Munich Signature, pg. 33

Thinking about all the wrongs in the world...past, present, and future.
My prayer:
"Lord, don't let me be apathetic. Help me to see what You would have me do day to day. Lord Jesus, help me to be Mrs. Wattenbarger.!"

  1. Aaahhh ~ I love deep thoughts. We would be such good neighbors Dalyn..... Gods ways are not our ways. Isn't he so good to reveal Himself and a smidgen of His plan? He certainly has a way of taking people out of their apathy~ such good quotes to ponder today, and tomorrow, and the next day:))

  2. Thanks Dalyn...I have that quote on my blog...it is so true.

I realized that you are now foster parents....was it difficult to get a license?

Ken and I went to the orientation...but felt overwhelmed and thought that we might not be good foster parents...we would get too attached and then have to give them back...plus then, the social workers are in your face all the time and always visiting unannounced....it might be different in the US. But here in Canada it's nuts....probably why so few want to do it...our social workers..well, I won't even say.

Anyway, congrat's on your foster babies. I know you are a wonderful mom and those children are blessed to have you.

  3. Amen sister! Amen! The holocaust has been on my mind as well. I just listened to a special about Bonhoeffer and plan to read his book when I'm done with my current read. Even though he wasn't successful in killing Hitler he tried over and over again. Too often as Christians we become stagnant and do nothing when we see the need, Great post! Love the quote..."All it takes for evil to prevail is good men to do nothing."
    Amen! Amen!

  4. So true...it is always about "those caught in the middle". I just retired from the State (MI) Department of Human Services. It was always difficult to see the aftermath of poor decisions by adults. Just today I posted a video on my Blog of a young man (there are dozens and dozens) who is eligible for adoption. I watched it twice, and cried twice, seeing him search carefully for words that would win over a family. We have to trust in God's plan...the final plan, and do our best while here. Dalyn, you are doing your part...and it's refreshing to see. Always shore up the middle...they need our help and hope.
