National Adoption Month Thoughts

Our lives as believers are meant for so much more than we let them be in our great country. It's easy to be complacent, even apathetic.  Sometimes I desperately wish I could WAKE UP! (spiritually) then other times I lazily drowse like a fat cat in a sunny window, happy that my life is warm cream and a soft pillow.

But it's not like that for everyone. In fact, it's not for a lot of people. The Bible calls them the needy, fatherless, orphans, widows, those in prisons (physical and spiritual)...I think a lot about those people. But I still think of myself more. Lord help me, I don't like it. But what's that verse of Paul's? That which I will I don't do, and that which I don't want to do I do...or something like that- Oh wretched man (woman) that I am!

Yesterday in my daily Bible reading I came to a verse that zapped me- I mean it slayed me! You might not be as moved as I was over it, but the Holy Spirit was speaking to ME, in MY quiet time (of which there is far too little around here)- the verse is the Lord God Himself illustrating what Knowing Him really is- and isn't that the point of all our Bible reading and church going and sermons, and studies...to KNOW Him?! I felt like I hit the jackpot!
Ready...? here it is:

Jeremiah 22:16 He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well. Is not this to know me? declares the LORD.

SO, there you have it in a nutshell. Serve and love others. Take care of the defenseless ones. The proof is in the pudding, so-to-speak.
It brings to mind 1 Corinthians 13

1Co 13:1
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
1Co 13:2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
1Co 13:3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.
1Co 13:4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant
1Co 13:5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;
1Co 13:6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.
1Co 13:7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
1Co 13:8 Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.
1Co 13:9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part,
1Co 13:10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.
1Co 13:11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways.
1Co 13:12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.
1Co 13:13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
and it flat out smacks of James 1:27

Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.

and
Pro 28:27 Whoever gives to the poor will not want, but he who hides his eyes will get many a curse.

Can't forget Deuteronomy either...- it's all over the whole Bible for Heaven's sake.

SO, my grand plans about giving up foster care for infants and maybe even adopting again? (so that I can have time for horseback riding, visiting, travel, making cheese, get a tan, work out...blah blah blah) I'm going to have to shelve that for now.

Because I want to wake up and try to remember this:

1Peter 2:9

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy
nation, a people for his own possession, that you may
proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of
darkness into his marvelous light.

Remembering IS Important!

“…whoever touches you touches the apple of His eye.” (Zechariah 2:8)
You may want to ignore this topic, and I'll admit this isn't well written and alot is borrowed material due to my time constraints...but please take a deep breath and dive in. At the end is some good, encouraging stuff, I promise.

Once upon a time...not so long ago- an evil man and his minions murdered and robbed millions of people. Jews. Not only jews either- and it wasn't only Hitler's military men and women who slaughtered these people, no it was also your every day Joe...because of ignorance, anti-semetism in the church which is still alive today, and peer pressure, the every day people of the time in some places murdered their neighbors and stole their things. It was a sick time. The rest of the world turned a blind eye. Sound familiar? It should. Or maybe you don't know your history, or your current events for that matter.
The Nazis did horrible experiments on people. Tortured them, gassed them, operated on them while awake! They had everything stipped from them- family, dignity and material wealth. They were forced to slave labor, starved, and if you think this kind of criminal behavior can't happen again- rethink! How did most of the world ignore this??!!
Their hair was shaved and sold in large shipments. Disgusting. Little grandmothers, used to dignified treatment forced to be stripped naked in public and watch as their daughters and granddaughters were raped.

Jewish children, the victims of medical experiments in Auschwitz

Please read on. I have taken great liberties with the material below from the Messianic Bible newsletter. http://messianicbible.com/index.htm)( I just don't have the time to write my own words with all the people I'm caring for in my home right now. But I feel SO strongly about this I needed to share a bit. DON'T FORGET!

Today Israeli Jews and Arabs alike will stand still for a moment of silence.
It’s a silence which, without even a word, speaks of the unspeakable.
Under the direction of Adolph Hitler, German Nazis tortured and murdered Jewish
men, women and children – called the apple of God’s eye, God’s own
‘segulah’
(special treasure)
.
“For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen
you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be His people, His
treasured possession [segulah].” (Deuteronomy 7:6)
The Nazis also murdered many other people who they considered inferior to the
‘Aryan race.’  Such as anyone, blind, deaf, physically or mentally impaired in any way...

There were, however, a few brave souls with the courage to risk their lives in
order to help Yeshua’s (Jesus’) brethren in their time of desperate trouble.
They believed Yeshua meant it when He said, “He who tries to save his life will
lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.” (Matthew 10:39)
The Ten Boom family, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and others like them, gave their
lives to be ‘set apart’ from the group.
Set apart is actually the meaning of the Hebrew word for holy (kadosh).
Irena Sendler, a Catholic social worker who was also
a member of the Polish resistance, smuggled 2,500
Jewish children out of the Warsaw Ghetto with the
help of the resistance. She provided them with false
identity documents and with housing outside the Ghetto.
For this, the Nazis tortured her and sentenced her to
death. Nevertheless, she did survive the war.
These righteous Gentiles, and others like them, dared to stand with the
Jewish people
in the Holocaust and to resist the evil forces that were trying
to destroy them.
Their names are honored at Yad Vashem (Holocaust Memorial Museum
in Jerusalem).

Warsaw Ghetto Uprising
This day was chosen to commemorate the Holocaust because it is the anniversary
of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.
On April 19, 1943, the Germans entered the Warsaw Ghetto in Poland to deport
the surviving Jews to the death camp called Treblinka.
A year earlier, in 1942, 300,000 Jewish men, women and children had been
rounded up by the Nazis and deported to the death camp.
In January 1943, however, Warsaw ghetto fighters resisted another attempt to
round up more Jews for slaughter. After that they prepared for future resistance.
On the morning of April 19, when 2,000 well trained, heavily armed German
troops entered the Ghetto with tanks and flamethrowers to carry out the
final deportation.
However, 750 resistance fighters armed with nothing more than Molotov
cocktails, 17 rifles, and a handful of pistols fought for the lives of everyone
in the Ghetto.
Warsaw Ghetto burning: Captured Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto are led by
German soldiers to deportation.
The woman on the left at the head of the
column is holding onto the right arm
of her mother-in-law, and her child is in
tow. The child's father can
be seen to the girl's left. Of the four, only he
survived the war.

The Germans were forced to withdraw and returned with ever increasing
firepower.
They were, nevertheless, unsuccessful.

Several days later, the German commander, General Jürgen Stroop, gave the order
to burn the ghetto to the ground building by building.
Warsaw’s brave resistance fighters held out for 27 days against this
overwhelming force.
On May 16, Stroop announced that the “the Jewish quarter of Warsaw no longer
exists. (Jewish Virtual Library)”
We want to believe that such events are past and can never happen again.
Shockingly, today Israel and the Jewish People still face Muslim Arab enemies
that would like to deport and annihilate them.
Sadly, there are Christians
who support this ungodly agenda.
~_____~
Are the Jewish People Lost and Cursed by God?
Today, there are Christians who believe in Replacement Theology, a errant idea
that the Church has replaced Israel, and that the Jews are now cursed by God.
Some people think that the Jewish People deserved what happened to them during
the Holocaust, and that the Holocaust is evidence of God’s judgment of their
stiff-necked, sinful ways.
The Word of God is very clear that God has a plan for Israel, and that He isn't
finished with the Jews:
"I ask then: Did God reject his people? By no means! I am an Israelite
myself, a descendant of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin. God did not
reject his people, whom he foreknew.... Again I ask: Did they stumble so
as to fall beyond recovery? Not at all!
" (Romans 11:1-2, 11)
"I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so
that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part
until the full number of the Gentiles has come in, and in this way all
Israel will be saved
." (Romans 11: 25-26)

 ~______________________~
How do I know that the Lord hasn't forgotten His people, Israel? Because of who He is. Please don't be ignorant of history, and don't be ignorant of what the Bible says. Study to show yourself approved. (that's in the Bible *U*)

Hebrew has a word for life-long love that is richer and deeper than English has ever conceived of—hesed (HEH-sed). Based in a covenantal relationship, hesed is a steadfast, rock-solid faithfulness that endures to eternity:
“Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love (hesed) for you will not be shaken” Isaiah 54:10.

Hesed is a love that is so enduring that it persists beyond any sin or betrayal to mend brokenness and graciously extend forgiveness:

“No one is cast off by the Lord forever. Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love (hesed).” (Lamentations 3:31-32)

Hesed is to love as God loves. When God’s presence passed by Moses on Mt. Sinai and revealed his very essence, God proclaimed his great hesed. (Exodus 34:6) Biblical scholar John Oswalt describes it this way:

The word hesed…[is] the descriptor par excellence of God in the Old Testament. The word speaks of a completely undeserved kindness and generosity done by a person who is in a position of power. This was the Israelites’ experience of God. He revealed himself to them when they were not looking for him, and he kept his covenant with them long after their persistent breaking of it had destroyed any reason for his continued keeping of it. …Unlike humans, this deity was not fickle, undependable, self-serving, and grasping. Instead he was faithful, true, upright, and generous—always.(1)

Like other Hebrew words, hesed is not just a feeling but an action. It intervenes on behalf of loved ones and comes to their rescue. After Abraham’s servant miraculously found a wife for Isaac by bumping into her at a well, he praised God “who has not abandoned his kindness (hesed) and faithfulness to my master” (Genesis 24:27). Because hesed is often active, it’s translated as “mercy” or “loving-kindness,” but neither of these words fully convey that hesed acts out of unswerving loyalty even to the most undeserving.

After Much Consideration...

I decided I better just delete the post on why I LOVE the Duggars. I was very sad to see that instead of the usual nasty comments from people who don't like Christians or large families, I got nasty comments from the other crowd. Wow. It's plain to see that you can't please people, and since I won't bother trying, I felt it better to just delete the post. The Duggars are controversial for all kinds of folks. *U*
Oh well, in the meantime, the sun came out, and we are making soap with a nice family (yes, large and they wear skirts *U*) and the guys are going to site in their rifles to get ready for hunting.

Rush of Fools...

I got my No Greater Joy magazine yesterday. What a breath of fresh air for me. You see, I have had an internal struggle for the 4 years we have lived here. I need encouragment from time to time. *U* It seems we have had, for the most part, until recently, only two choices for social life. None, or else ignore as best as possible fools and try to undo the damage at home.

My Soapbox

Church's don't help. Actually they are the bigger problem. The pressure to hurry up and bustle your kids off to the youth group and Sunday school classes even when you are just a visitor- is ludicrous. I want to say to children and youth workers at churches:

You mean I'm supposed to send my children, unsupervised (by me) to a group of bad mannered, bad-mouthed kids whose own parents can't keep them under control and so therefore gladly send them to you each week? You leave harried, worn out and frazzled thinking you have done a good deed. When actually you have done nothing more than enable the wretchedness of this whole failing system. Parents should train and teach their kids. If you want to do a good deed, train young couples to parent their own kids.

I'm not saying there's not a place for those classes and groups- kids from the neighborhood come in and need someone to teach them if they aren't in believing homes. There is a need for those classes.

But did you ever notice the kids who behave the worst are kids in Church?

Did you ever stop to think that allowing kids to be brainwashed all day at school, peer pressured to death, and then fed junk food and entertained all day with electronics and porn-based lyrics in songs that you don't moderate is not only harmful, but is a waste? Is wrong!? Our society is going to reap the bad fruit of this. Aren't we already?

I think churches don't always have the best of motives for drawing in all those kids to entertain. Kids bring in adults. Adults bring in $$. Cynical? I know. I hate that about myself.

I live in a place where 1/3 of the adults are public school employees.Including the Sunday school teachers, youth workers, Bible study leaders...etc. Where most Christians send their kids to day care, then preschool, then the local government school...inbetween they stuff them full of goodies, buy them everything their eyes lust for, neglect teaching them courtesy or manners (and OH! How that shows!) Then parents congratulate themselves on their kids not being "as bad as so and so's kids" and march them off to youth group to be wined and dined with fun and games and pizza.

We don't do that. We are judged, critizised, and clucked at...I am so weary of that.

We are strict, we believe the Bible, we have goals, vision for our family, and we have standards. Imagine that. But- we are also fun, have alot to do, have a tight family that discusses ideas and we aren't religious. We work hard and we play hard. We discipline and we train. We are sooooo far from perfect, and don't think our kids are any better then anybody else's, but we are on a mission, and see ourselves as missionaries- to our kids.

We realize the children must choose for themselves. But, at home, armed with truth, and given the freedom to learn in an environment free of the world's pressures...they stand a better chance.

I know I sound really defensive...but I just think the hardest part of our whole challenging lifestyle here as believers in this community is other Christians.

I know what direction we are traveling...I won't be moved. I will continue raising my own children and dodging fools. Bad company corrupts good morals, it's true. Sometimes my own kids are the fools, and so we need to pull some weeds in their little gardens, but I'm not sitting around hoping someone else will "fix them". When they are in that condition I don't inflict them on others either.

No, I won't give up, because secretly some of those "other" people have come to me and expressed that they wish they had children "with such nice manners", or they wish their children would "sit quietly", "Not talk back", etc. etc. So even though I take alot of guff off of people around here for the way we raise our kids, I see that others are watching...and learning. People whose children are public disgraces who wonder why nobody will invite them to their home for a meal may give me the dirtiest looks, but I suspect that they secretly wish they knew my "trick".

Here it is for free- I believe the Bible.

Look around. The world system isn't working. If what you are doing isn't working...then why continue? Because it's routine? Familiar? Is that any reason? The world system by the way, has infiltrated the American church- long ago. Not just the American church either.

Those who think the status quo is "just how it is" can visit their kids in jail someday, or raise their grandkids while their parents "dry out" in rehab, or whatever. You reap what you sow. As an individual, a family, a community, and a country. It's looking pretty bad, isn't it? You know it is. I see it, and it bothers me. The whole dilema for me as a mother is, do I try to influence for good at church, or do we get out of there and live our convictions without interference? I know it's wrong to segregate or seperate ourselves, I really do, but I get so discouraged when I see what's going on, and when it effects my own children.

~_________________________________~

Here's a good DVD for parents with boys. We respect Michael Pearl, appreciate his wisdom and the ministry he does with prison inmates. I'm hoping we can minister to kids before they become prison age! *U* I know alot of people don't like Mike Pearl. Whatever. I don't like your humanism, secular lifestyle, and poor manners, but most of all I feel really sorry for your kids.

Please don't leave me nasty comments- I really have to admit I couldn't care less. Really. You go your way and reap what you sow in your field and leave me alone to do the same. In the end we shall see...
